As a Type I Diabetic, I've used many continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems over the years. CGMs traditionally consist of a small adhesive sensor which injects into your abdomen, a re-usable transmitter that attaches to the sensor, and a bluetooth enabled receiver device.

Very recently a CGM company called Dexcom released their Dexcom G4 PLATINUM System with Share and Dexcom G5 Mobile CGM System which has one extremely freeing innovation: the glucose data is available and accessible on the cloud. This technology gives you access to your own glucose data and also lets you mointor glucose activity from family members and loved ones.

As a Software Engineer I spend a lot of time on my Mac and get caught up in work and forget to check my glucose level. It seemed natural to have something on my Mac, right where I work that keeps me informed about what is going on with my blood sugar. A search on the web did not return any search results for what I was looking for. I couldn't believe that there was no app for macOS that would just show me the trend and current blood sugar from my Dexcom. I wanted to be able to just take a quick look in the macOS status menu and get the information I need, my current glucose trend and glucose level.

I started working on the GlucoGram app for macOS. The fact that the Dexcom Share feature sends your blood sugar data to a Dexcom server allowed me to write GlucoGram that downloads this data periodically from Dexcom and displays live glucose data in your macOS Status menu bar.

I've been using GlucoGram consistently in the past few months and it's really been great. As I imagine it will be useful to more people than just me. It is now available on the App Store® for free.

If you have any suggestions, ideas or improvements please feel free to send me an email or leave me a message on the GlucoGram Facebook Page. You can also use the GlucoGram Facebook Messenger Code on the Support page which makes it easy to start a conversion with the GlucoGram Facebook page.
